About The Department:
Introduction:
The Department of Microbiology was established in June 2014 under supervision of former principal and headship of Mr. T. U Karanke. With the flawless beginning the department succeeded in providing the best quality platform in the Microbiology education. Presently, the department is under the headship of Mr. Anil S. Mali with two other Assistant Professors and one Non-Teaching staff member.
Now it is a full-fledged department with all modern equipment and infrastructure. It has well equipped spacious laboratories of 60×30 feet size with all necessities to facilitate students scientific approaches.
The department has two autoclaves, bacteriological incubator, Laminar Air flow, Distillation unit, Refrigerator, Compound Microscopes, Hot air oven, Bunsen burner facilities with sufficient working space, pH meter and other equipment. Department also has permanent slides, charts as teaching aid. The department of microbiology also has departmental Library with 20 Books. Issued to the FY, SY and TY BSc students.
Scope and Importance of Subject
The study of Microbiology gives an idea of invisible life on this planet. The microbiology education also inculcates the role of microorganisms in the nature and their relationship with environment and us in the context of different applications and harmful effects. Earlier scientific studies were unable to study this enormous invisible life but the discovery of microscope and development of field of Microbiology opened the tremendous opportunities and career choice in this field.
Now the science of microbiology is a integral part of almost all areas including pharmaceuticals, food industry, healthcare, diagnostics, environmental studies and many more. Hence the student pursuing education in microbiology have tremendous and diversified carries opportunities in different sectors.
The knowledge of useful and harmful nature of microorganism also improves our life style. Presently we are using power of microorganism for the producing thousands of economically important products, techniques and research methodologies including production of antibiotics, SCP, fermented food and beverages, biosensors, development of genetically modified microbes, study of various molecular mechanisms, microbes as factory to produce different products and many more.

To inculcate the knowledge of Microbiology to aware about the power and ability of microorganisms to develop the different methods and products, promote research, to circulate these career opportunities in the society.
